Caring Differently

The stories about three teachers (Sarah, Michelle, and Lee) how they each care for their students differently in Mapping Interconnected Care show the different ways students receive care from their teachers and how each teacher demonstrates care differently. In the article, Sarah is described as queer. As stated in the article, Sarah way of care is not traditional. Her care is based on love of humanity rather than maternal care. The way she dresses and how she wears her hair represent a model for her students, especially those who are queer. She creates an open environment for her students to feel safe in discussing their identity and being proud of who they are.
The second teacher Michelle is more like a motherly figure to her students. She cares for them by going beyond and providing snacks to those that are in need of snacks, to help them stay focus in class. She rather feed them than see her students fall asleep and later figure out what is wrong with that child.
And lastly, Lee on the other hand is very straight about the cleanliness of her classroom. She believes that it is very important to have a clean environment to learn in. I believe that her method of cleanliness is to educate her students how to be responsible and organize. To make them feel comfortable and make the classroom a second home rather than a place that a child would rather not be at.

How I See Care Being Expressed in My Youth Space

I have not started my internship, however, I have been in a space where the children are allowed to voice their opinion if they feel that they have a learning activity that will benefit the rest of the group. Each member was given a chance to create a dance move of a song that were chosen by them, when they are in dance section. It does not matter the age, everyone opinion matters. They know when to speak out and when to be silent for others. The leader showed love to everyone by praising them when they do something right and encouraged them when they were not successful in a task. Because of that, they love and respect their leader and is always excited to be in a space that their voice is heard and their opinion matters.

  2. Hey girl, I think its pretty cool that the leaders did something like that. I've never seen in dance, students having control of a movement , unless it given as an assignment. I thinks that its important to give youth control and allow them to express themselves.
